West Des Moines Water Works is now accepting applications for a Water Production Coordinator. Successful candidates will have a good working knowledge or maintenance and operation of a water production facility. Candidates should effectively know how to plan, coordinate and execute maintenance activities and should be able to respond to water production emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises water production maintenance and residual equipment operation employees
  • Plans and schedules water production maintenance work in coordination with the Water Production Manager
  • Coordinates and supervises contract maintenance companies and individuals
  • Performs duties of maintenance personnel in their absence or when they need assistance
  • Orders parts and equipment for maintenance
  • Establishes proper safety techniques and provide proper equipment and training to promote and ensure a safe working environment
  • Coordinates and schedules vehicle maintenance and maintain records for the department

Minimum Qualifications:


Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED and three years in maintenance of water production equipment or three years in operation of water production facility or a combination of both. Preference may be given to individuals with prior supervisory experience.

Special Requirements or Qualifications

  • Possession of an Iowa Grade 3 Water Treatment Certificate
  • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license upon appointment

  • Knowledge of safety rules and guidelines
  • Attention to details and ability to follow written instructions
  • Understanding of treatment processes, process controls and maintenance procedures
  • Ability to collect and analyze information, make decisions without direct supervision
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to supervise employees and effectively enforce the written policies of the Water Works
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with management, co-workers and the general public. Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, monitor and printer
  • Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office, GIS, and specialized maintenance software
  • Ability to safeguard confidential information

Physical/Drug Test - Post offer, pre-employment physical and drug test are required.
