West Des Moines Water Works provides bulk water through a bulk water vendor and the rental of hydrant meters. Both the water vendor and the hydrant meters are available solely from the A.C. Ward Water Treatment Plant (1505 Railroad Avenue).

Bulk Water Vendor

The bulk water vendor facility is seasonally available 24-hours a day and can be found at the A. C. Ward Municipal Water Treatment Plant, 1505 Railroad Avenue.  The current rate for bulk water can be found on our rate information page. 

Hydrant Meters
A limited number of hydrant meters are available for rent from the West Des Moines Water Works. These meters, which are available on a first-come - first-served basis, may be rented through the plant secretary during normal business hours (7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday) at the A. C. Ward Municipal Water Treatment Plant, 1505 Railroad Avenue. Various sizes and rental terms are available. The hydrant meters are available for a refundable deposit. The deposit is refunded after the return of the meter, less an administrative fee, water costs and the cost of any repairs of the meter. Refunds are issued monthly following the Board of Trustees meeting.

Unauthorized use of Hydrants
Please note that it is illegal to use any hydrant within the City of West Des Moines without prior authorization of the West Des Moines Water Works. Unauthorized use may be reported to the Water Works plant at 515.222.3465 or to local authorities.  Fees and charges for the unauthorized use of water and a hydrant can be found in the Miscellaneous Fees, Charges and Rates Resolution.
