Fees and charges


West Des Moines Water Works strives to maintain stable fees yet still allow for the highest standards.  Below is a list of common fees that may affect builders and contractors.

Water Supply Connection Fees

Occupancy Unit Construction

 First 8 units per building $700 per unit 
 Next 6 units per building  $620 per unit
 Next 6 units per building  $540 per unit
 Next 10 units per building  $460 per unit
 Over 30 units per building  $380 per unit

Occupancy unit construction means single and multiple residential, commercial and other types of buildings in which each unit is designed to be occupied by a single family, single business or other single enterprise. Qualifying commercial and other types of occupancy units shall contain no more than 100 fixture units.

Examples of occupancy unit construction include single family residences, condominiums, townhouses, apartment buildings, commercial buildings intended for two or more tenants or owners, malls and multiple unit commercial and retail buildings. Plumbing fixtures are available for normal use only by occupants of the unit in which the fixtures are located. This definition excludes office or other buildings in which water using devices are grouped in one or more "cores" or a similar arrangement.

Non-occupancy unit construction means buildings in which water using facilities are grouped in one or more "cores" or a similar arrangements, such that plumbing fixtures are intended to be shared by the various tenant units or ownership entities.

Non-occupancy unit construction also means individual commercial and other types of occupancy units containing more than 100 fixture units.

Examples of non-occupancy unit construction include office buildings in which the "core" serves multiple tenants or owners, schools, industrial plants and government buildings.

The fee for making taps to water mains larger than those stated above will be the cost of labor, equipment and materials.

Prices shown above for taps larger than 2" are for labor and equipment only. If the tap is 10" or larger, there will be an additional charge for equipment rental costs.
